SOF. Selection. Team life. It was everything that I asked for but not how I imagined. No deployment. No combat. Training. Death. Life. Awards. Image of pistol carrying mother in Montana served as a reminder of what I wanted to do this for. But the lesser part of me wanted external validation. I got it. Most men didn't make it while I did. The most empty I've felt in my life was the night of my graduation. Beret is not a magic pill.
